Summer Ball Tryouts May 31st and June 1st

5/30/2018

Picture
Summer ball tryouts for West Salem's D1 and D2 teams will take place this week.
  • WHEN: Thursday, May 31st (5:00 PM to 6:30 PM) and Friday, June 1st (6:00 PM to 7:30 PM)
  • WHERE: West Salem High School
  • WHO: Any ballplayers who will attend WSHS next year (current 8th graders through current juniors)
  • COST: TBD.  We will let you know at tryouts.

Reminders:
  • Please be READY to roll at start time.
  • Please come dressed in baseball attire (pants, cleats, etc.) with your equipment.
  • Football players, please go to football practice first and meet up with us right after.
  • Being a member of a spring team (Frosh, JV, Varsity) does not guarantee a summer roster spot.  During tryouts coaches will be assessing players on multiple aspects including coachability, work ethic, and skill level.  Please be aware baseball is a "cut sport" and there are limited number of roster spots available.
  • Whether you make a team this summer or not has no bearing on making a team in the spring.  There are limited spots and we understand that players grow and improve with time, hard work, and practice.
  • We encourage multi-sport athletes and always do our best to work out scheduling issues out with football, basketball, etc.

Current 8th graders:
  • Please bring your current youth ball schedule so we know your availability for the summer.
  • Your current team/league (JBO, DS, Little League, etc.) has no bearing on making a team.  Please do not assume that it does.
  • Remember (if you make a team) that your first priority is with your youth ball team.  You are expected to go to your youth team's events if there is a schedule conflict.

Legion Hopefuls:
  • AAA Legion tryouts are June 3rd and June 4th at 5:00 PM at Western Oregon University.
  • We encourage you to try out for both teams in the off-chance you don't make the AAA squad.
  • If you do make the Division 1 team you are definitely able to tryout for the Dirtbags.
  • Please communicate with the coaches if you have any questions about Legion/WSHS tryouts.

Here's a link to our Summer Ball page.  Each team's page has current schedules.  There will likely be updates and changes to these but they are currently up-to-date:

We look forward to seeing you out there as summer ball is a fun experience where tremendous growth and learning occur.  Go Titans!

The Titans Walk-Off to Advance to the Semifinals

5/29/2018

And then there were four.  West Salem used a legendary pitching performance and late inning heroics to defeat the West Albany Bulldogs in the OSAA 6A state quarterfinals.  Logan Johnson went the distance on the mound for the Titans, yielding only 2 runs on 4 hits.  West Salem jumped out to an early lead plating two in the bottom of the second.  West Albany wouldn't go down without a fight, however, as they used a solo home run and RBI triple in consecutive innings to tie the game.  With one out in the bottom of the seventh Austin Ailstock sent the Titan fans home happy with a walk-off sacrifice fly scoring Brody Hillman.

The win advances West Salem to the semifinals where they will play their first away game of the postseason when they match-up with #1 ranked Westview.  The game at Westview will take place on Tuesday, May 29th at 5:00 PM.
