Orange Sales 2016

11/8/2016

The beginning of November brings an important time of year for West Salem Baseball.  Sure the season is still months away but this when players begin to raise funds for the upcoming season.  Our first, and most recognized, fundraiser is the orange and grapefruit sales event.  Here are some details about the event for both players selling and supporters purchasing.
  • WHAT IS IT? The West Salem baseball program is selling boxes or oranges and grapefruit to raise funds for the program.
  • HOW MUCH?  $30 for a 20 pound box of either fruit.
  • WHEN CAN I BUY/SELL? Selling is currently underway. Players will begin approaching community members ASAP.  This may be door-to-door, over the phone, via email, word of mouth, etc.
    • There will be a community-wide blitz on November 12th from 10 AM until 2 PM. Players will sell throughout the West Salem neighborhoods.
    • Players, do not wait until the blitz to sell. Selling immediately will provide the best opportunity for strong sales.
  • WHEN DOES SELLING END?  Ballplayers must turn in initial orders by November 21st. The absolute final day to take orders is November 28th, as this is the day Coach Tiffin will order the fruit.
  • WHEN DO I GET MY FRUIT?  Players will deliver fruit to the West Salem community on December 3rd. Players will arrange transportation of the fruit on their own.
  • WHY DO WE DO THIS?  There are many expenses that come will playing baseball in Oregon
    • Travel. Money that varsity ballplayers raise goes to their Spring Break trip.  The more they sell the less comes out of their family's pockets.
    • Equipment. Everything from baseballs, to helmets and bats is an additional expense.
    • Field renovations. We are continually looking for ways to improve our facility and make it one of the most recognizable and exciting places to play in the state.
    • Field management. The cost to upkeep a ball field is great. Mowers, gas for the mowers, grass seed, dirt, clay, Turface for wet conditions, field conditioner, rakes, and tarps are just a few of the expenses we incur.
  • HOW CAN I HELP?
    • Community members can help by purchasing fruit and sharing this info with friends and family.
    • Ballplayers can help by selling immediately and often.

If you would like to support our cause please consider purchasing some of our delicious fruit. Just talk to community members from years past. It gets rave reviews! And if fruit isn't your style please consider making a donation when our players stop by to ask you for support.

  • CONTACT.  If you don't run into one of our players and want to buy here are so ways to get a hold of us.
