November 12th, 2015 was a very special day for student-athletes all over the country. It's a chance for them to share (and show off) their hard work by officially committing to their future college or university by signing their National Letter of Intent (NLI or #NLI for all you tweeters out there).
Thursday was particularly special for the West Salem Titans Baseball Program as Andy Armstrong signed his NLI to compete collegiality at Oregon State University come the 2017 baseball season. Previously, Andy had verbally committed to the Beavers, but this was the day he finalized the recruiting process by signing his letter among his family, friends, and coaches in the West Salem High School library. Two other West Salem students, Tayler Gunesch (softball at PSU) and Brooke Chuhlantseff (running at OSU), also signed Division 1 NLI's (article via StatemanJournal.com) during the library ceremony. Fun note, Brooke's brother, Logan, is a Titan Baseball player. Armstrong, a four sport (football, basketball, swimming, and baseball) athlete at West, joins 11 other ballplayers (article via osubeavers.com) in signing on for the 2017 season as Oregon State Beavers. As most locally know, the Oregon State baseball program is considered as one of the premier programs in the country. Not only are they a force to be reckoned with in the Pac-12 Conference, but the Beavs consistently field teams ranked nationally in Division 1. The Beavers are just a few seasons removed from their back to back National Championships (2006, 2007). Overall, the program has won 24 conference championships, qualified for 15 NCAA tournaments, and appeared in five College World Series. We are extremely proud of Andy and his accomplishments. Go Titans! To check out Andy's bio on the osubeavers.com baseball site click HERE The first round of the 2015 OSAA playoffs begin on Monday, May 25. West Salem will travel north to take on Jesuit.
