McMullen, Rock Earn All-League Honors

5/24/2022

Brody McMullen and Tyler Rock were both recognized for their on-field performance this year.  Brody earned 1st Team All-League pitcher honors and Tyler was named 2nd Team All-League infielder.

During the 2022 season McMullen had a minuscule 2.06 earned run average (1.54 in MVC play) and batters hit a putrid .196 against him.  He also struck out an amazing 84 hitters in 48 innings pitched, which averages out to just over 12 strikeouts per 7 innings.  Brody had solid pitching performances much of the year but two stood above the rest.  Both against eventual playoff teams, Brody flat out shoved versus #15 ranked Mountain View ( 6 2/3 IP, 0 ER, 2 hits, 15 K's) and #7 ranked Clackamas (6 IP, 0 ER, 4 hits, 13 K's), earning the win in each game.

Tyler Rock came on strong in league, batting at a scorching .444 clip.  In MVC contests Tyler was tied for the team lead in hits (eight) and led the team in RBI (six), home runs (one), and doubles (three).  What's more impressive is that Tyler did this in only 19 league plate appearances (18 at-bats, with one HBP).  Tyler's breakout game in 2022 came against McNary, where he went 3-4 with a home run, double, two runs scored, and four RBI.

Congrats to both Brody and Tyler on their accolades and outstanding seasons!

Summer Ball Tryouts for School and Legion Teams Coming Up!

5/23/2022

With school being out in less than a month Summer Ball is nearly here!  West Salem players have a few options this summer.  The Titans run Division 1 and Division 2 teams and West Salem is also part of the AAA Legion Post 20 Dirtbags.

The Division 1 and Division 2 teams are open to any players who will be attending West Salem next year; this means current 8th graders through current 11th graders.  Anyone interested in playing on the D1 and D2 teams can tryout for a spot on the teams.  Tryouts are June 1st and June 3rd from 5:30 to 8:00 at the West Salem High School varsity ball-field.  We highly encourage anyone who wants to be a part of the 2023 Titan Baseball Program to tryout.  Each year we get many 8th graders to tryout for the team and we would love to see you out there!  Cost to participate is yet to be determined.  Schedules for the D1 and D2 team have already been posted in the Summer Ball section of our site.

8th graders: As mentioned, we would love to see you at our tryouts.  Whether you make a team or not has no bearing on your standing in the next school year.  What level of youth ball you play at also has no bearing on making a summer team.  Whether you are JBO, Juniors, Cal Ripken, or whatever you should tryout if you're interested in playing ball for us this summer.  Even you you end up not making a team it is still a benefit as we will get to know you during tryouts and are able to put a name to a face so we know who you are next year.  Win-win!

The AAA Post 20 Dirtbags are open to all high school aged players (including current seniors and some college aged players depending on birthdate) and tend to be higher level of ball than D1 and D2.  Anyone interested should attend tryouts on June 4th and June 5th at 3:00 at Central High School.  The Dirtbags feed from the West Salem, Dallas, Central, and McMinnville areas.  Cost to participate is $800.

West Closes Out 2022 With Big Win

5/20/2022

Picture
The 2022 Titans ball club ended its season in style, defeating #6 ranked Clackamas 9-4.  West used a huge 8 run 3rd inning to break the game open.  In the third clutch hits from Trey Ward (2 run single) and Aiden Rock (2 run double) were key moments in the rally.

Senior starting pitcher Brody McMullen dominated on the mound for the Titans going 6 innings, allowing no earned runs on four hits.  McMullen struck out thirteen Clackamas Cavaliers on the day.  It was a fantastic way for Brody to wrap up his Titan career.

Offensively, seniors Brooks Ferguson (2-3, 1 run, 1 RBI) and Jeremiah Pinkerton (2-4, 1 run) topped off their careers with huge  games.  Trey Ward (2-4, 1 2B, 1 run, 2 RBI) also had a solid day at the plate for the Titans.

West goes into the off-season graduating eight seniors (McMullen, Ferguson, Pinkerton, Evan Faust, Jaebin Sotelo, Ashton Simmons, Jon Olsen, and Colin Kronenberg).  The underclassmen remaining will look to use performances like those in this game to build upon for next year as they hope to get back into the playoffs after missing the postseason for the first time in several years.

The West Salem baseball club ends its year with an overall record of 7 wins and 19 loses, with a 3-9 mark in league.

Final Game of 2022 on the Horizon for the Titans

5/18/2022

Picture
Win, lose, or draw, West Salem's baseball season will come to and end at Clackamas High School on Thursday evening.  With the Titans having been eliminated from playoff contention what remains is one more ballgame as a group in the 2022 season.  After the game the program will bid a fond farewell to its eight seniors: Brody McMullen, Jaebin Sotelo, Colin Kronenberg, Brooks Ferguson, Ashton Simmons, Jon Olsen, Evan Faust, and Jeremiah Pinkerton.

Entering the game West Salem sits at 6-19 on the season, while Clackamas is 23-3 and ranked 6th in the state.  The Titans will look for the upset as Clackamas, no doubt, would be the betting favorite in this one, if there were such a thing in high school baseball.  Maybe we'll have to check with Las Vegas; anything is possible these days.  Still, as they say, "You don't play the game on paper" and the Titans will most certainly give it one final shot to put together a complete game and play David to Clackamas' Goliath.

First pitch from Clackamas High School is scheduled for 5pm.

Note for parents and fans attending: As with the previous contest vs. Lincoln, this matchup is an Endowment Game, meaning that all fans must pay to attend.  Clackamas is asking for cash only payments.
