Brody, Hunter, and Simran Make Six

6/2/2016

On Wednesday, June 1st three of our 2016 seniors signed letters of intent to play collegiate baseball next year. Brody Wittman signed with Chemeketa Community College, while Simran Dhote and Hunter Johnson signed with Western Oregon University.  A celebration for these student-athletes was held in the West Salem High School library with family, friends, and fellow Titan athlete signees.  With the committal of these three players the Titan Baseball program can officially say that ALL six of this year's seniors will play baseball after high school.  Previously, Andy Armstrong (Oregon State), Jonathan Terleski (Linn-Benton), and Matthew Lester (Linn-Benton) had signed letters with their future schools.

At Chemeketa (Salem, OR), Brody will be joining at team that was able to clinch a playoff berth in 2016 with a 16-10 league record.  The Storm compete in the South Region of the Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) and are led by head coach Nathan Pratt.  West Salem baseball has strong ties to Chemeketa as former Titan alum Dillon Keene is an assistant coach on the squad and Titan baseball coach Bryan Lohrman played ball at CCC prior to his time at College of Idaho.  West has sent numerous graduates the Storm's way over the years, most recently Jacob Riddell in 2013.  Chemeketa's most successful season was in 1994 when they won the NWAC (NWAACC at the time) title.

Hunter and Simran head to Western Oregon University in Monmouth, Oregon.  WOU plays at the Division 2 level and is a perennial powerhouse in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC).  West Salem has sent several players WOU's way, including Titan alum and current baseball coach Mike Cusick.  Most recently West Salem graduate Cody Allison suited up for WOU.  The Wolves are led by head coach Kellen Walker and look to rebound after failing to post the top record in their conference for the first time in 15 years.  Western Oregon's most successful season was in 2001, when the Wolves placed 4th at the NAIA World Series.

Along with our three ballplayers track and field standout Angela Mumford (Central Washington), soccer players Haley Houston (OIT), Jonah Jandera (Pacific), Liz Mendez (Lane), and Paula Labate (BIOLA), swimmer Ryan Wetzel (Charleton), as well as football stars Chase Lakin (Pacific) and Trey Lindekugal (Pacific) signed to compete athletically in college.  Congrats to all of the West Salem student-athletes.  It sure was a great day to be a Titan!
